Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett has given his thoughts on Steve Bruce and his reported upcoming appointment at West Bromwich Albion.

Following the sacking of Valerien Ismael, West Brom are on the search for a new manager, with the Baggies hoping that the new man will provide them with a boost to take them into the Premier League, as the club currently sit 6th in the Championship.

Reports seem to suggest that Bruce will be the man to succeed Ismael, which will make it the third West Midlands club he has taken charge of, following his previous spells in charge of Birmingham City and Aston Villa.

Taking to Twitter, Dorsett claimed that following the way things ended at Newcastle United – being drummed out of the club he supported less than two weeks after the club’s takeover by the Saudi Arabian consortium – he didn’t think it was a guarantee Bruce would step back into the dugout again, but an appointment like this might go some way to helping him heal, whilst also helping out the Baggies:

As this article from the BBC lays out, Bruce has got a rather impressive record of taking teams out of the second tier and into the Premier League, having done so twice with Birmingham and twice with Hull City, so he certainly has the pedigree in gaining promotion that Albion are looking for.

You just have to hope that he knows what he is getting himself in for, because it’s fair to say that West Brom’s owners don’t exactly hang about when it comes to their managerial appointments, having been through quite a lot over recent years.
