Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has praised Dan Burn after the role he played in Newcastle United’s recent Premier League win.

Over the weekend, the Magpies picked up another important three points as they begin to stage their end of season push to avoid relegation.

Indeed, a solitary goal from a Kieran Trippier free kick was enough to see Eddie Howe and co edge past Aston Villa in a narrow 1-0 home victory.

However, Downie opted to single out new signing Burn – who was making his debut – for his excellent display as he helped Newcastle to a clean sheet in the winning performance.

The Sky Sports reporter took to Twitter to make his feelings clear, writing: “Dan Burn best man on the park. Huge win for #NUFC.”

Burn arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion in the January transfer market for a reported fee of £13m. The player was keen on the move as Newcastle are his hometown club and he used to watch games at St. James’ Park as a season-ticket holder.

With that in mind, he will no doubt be delighted to have put in such a strong display on his debut and will hope to be a key figure in helping his new side avoid the drop come the end of the season.

It certainly seems as though Downie wasn’t alone in thinking Burn was excellent on the day, with a number of key NUFC figures such as Alan Shearer and Rob Lee also claiming the man of the match was worthy of the highest praise.
