Football writer Dan Kilpatrick has suggested Ryan Sessegnon’s attempts to relaunch his Tottenham Hotspur career have been flawed so far.

Indeed, taking to Twitter, the journalist explained that in a press conference soon after new manager Antonio Conte was appointed, the youngster seemed hopeful that the Italian would help bring out the best of his form in the near future.

Kilpatrick, however, went on to point out that a number of incidents since then have shown that not all has gone to plan.

He explained: “Sessegnon did a very optimistic presser on the eve of the Mura game in Nov, when he suggested Conte’s appointment could relaunch his whole career. He was sent off after 30 mins, then missed 7 games through injury after an impressive showing vs Liverpool. Now this…”

He also said the situation is ‘quite bleak‘.

The latest incident comes following Sessegnon’s most recent outing. In the poor 2-0 home loss against Wolves, the 21-year-old was withdrawn after just 28 minutes, with Dejan Kulusevski brought on in his place.

TIF Thoughts on Ryan Sessegnon and Tottenham…

Back in August of 2019, Spurs spent a fair amount of cash on Sessegnon, paying Fulham a figure reported to be £25m (potentially rising to £30m) for the Englishman.

Since then, however, things have not gone to plan. Indeed, in the following seasons, the left-sided player has only managed to feature in 22 games for the club across all competitions – scoring just once.

As alluded to by Kilpatrick, injuries have played a key part in that lack of form, with Sessegnon spending plenty of time on the sidelines already this season.

It does seem as though Conte’s arrival has failed to spark much of a revival in the 21-year-old’s career. This latest disappointment only goes to prove as much.
