Chris Waugh has been speaking on Pod on the Tyne about Kieran Trippier’s injury and a potential return to the Newcastle United first team.
The Newcastle United January signing was pivotal to getting the Magpies on a good run of form, with the full-back still unbeaten in the Premier League since joining the club, but a foot injury which has since required surgery put a stop to his run in the side.
Will PIF bring silverware to Newcastle?
Yes!
No!
Trippier was forced off early in the second half against Aston Villa due to a metatarsal injury which could see him out for the majority of the season, although Eddie Howe did confirm that his surgery had been a success.
Discussing Howe’s update, Waugh has revealed how long he expects Trippier to be out for this season.
He said: “It was a little bit of an odd sort of update, but basically, it was a positive one – the surgery went well, it hopefully, in theory, if he reacts well to that, means that he’s going to be recovering well over the course of the next few weeks.
“It’s going to be a good few weeks, probably 8-10 from now before we see Kieran Trippier back in a Newcastle shirt.”
TIF Thoughts on Kieran Trippier’s injury…
Newcastle managed to cope well without Trippier last Saturday as they took a point off West Ham United at the London Stadium, however, it was clear to see that his immediate replacement, Emil Krafth, is not up to the same standard, with the Sweden international giving away a needless free-kick which led to the Hammers’ opening goal.
However, the regular second-choice right-back, Javier Manquillo, could be set for a return this weekend with his injury – which was also picked up against Villa – not said to be too serious, which would soften the blow of losing someone like Trippier, who George Caulkin claimed is the new standard-bearer, while also speaking on Pod on the Tyne.
