Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United are turning their interests to the summer transfer window after making no first team signings in January, just bringing in Mateo Joseph Fernandez for the youth side.

With that in mind, it’ll be a busy summer for Leeds who will be desperate to add quality to avoid being dragged into a relegation fight again should they survive the drop this season.

With that in mind, they are turning their attentions to Barcelona’s young ace Riqui Puig. The Spanish midfielder is apparently on the transfer list with the Catalan giants.

Once branded the ‘La Masia Jewel’ it looks like the 22-year-old’s time is up in Barcelona.

Leeds’ next Pablo Hernandez?

Pablo Hernandez will be going down as a club legend at Elland Road, turning out for the Whites more than any other club he represented. In his 175 games for the club, the attacking midfielder scored 36 times and set up 41 for his teammates.

Puig can also play in that attacking midfield role and could be the answer to who will be Hernandez’s long term successor after recent options haven’t worked out.

He has also played as an eight more than the out and out ten of an attacking midfielder so may suit that 4-1-4-1 formation of Bielsa’s perfectly.

He’s also a Spanish midfielder with similar traits to Hernandez with his desire to be part of the attack, he well and truly could be Leeds’ answer to no longer having Hernandez.

Which comedian supports the Whites?

Rodrigo threatened?

Rodrigo, who is naturally a striker, has played a handful of games as that attacking midfielder in the Leeds set up this season. The signing of Puig could see a Spaniard in and a Spaniard out at Elland Road.

It’s no secret that the Spanish forward has been disappointing, although playing out of position, he has just two goals and an assist to his name despite making 18 appearances in all competitions.

January saw strong links to the £100k-a-week earning Rodrigo’s Leeds departure, although it never came, it showed he wasn’t a key member of Bielsa’s plans. The potential signing of Puig, who looks likely to take that position would push Rodrigo closer to the exit door.
