Journalist David Hughes has been speaking on the All Together Now podcast about his sadness over Lucas Digne’s Everton exit.

Digne was an early exit in the January transfer window, with former manager Rafael Benitez sanctioning the move as the pair had fallen out – only for the former manager to be sacked later that month.

Will Alli succeed at Everton?

No!

No!

Everton did manage to recoup a good fee for the full-back when Aston Villa splashed out £27 million for him – just under £10 million more than what the Toffees paid in 2018 for the Frenchman. However, that has not stopped the sour taste in the mouths of some Evertonians.

Hughes has been speaking of his disappointment over Digne’s exit.

He said: “I’m still really disappointed that we lost Lucas Digne, to be honest with you. Under the circumstances that he went – being forced out by the manager – really disappointing.

“I think he would have still been a really good player for us to have, albeit I know we got a good fee for him, but it was just sad, the way it happened, in my opinion, so I still feel a little bit bitter about that.”

TIF Thoughts on Digne’s exit…

It’s unclear as to whether Frank Lampard would have rather had Digne over new recruit Vitaliy Mykolenko, but with the former being a full French international, a regular at Goodison Park and their second-most creative player when it comes to goalscoring actions in the league last season (FBRef), it’s likely that the new manager would’ve liked Digne.

Digne has made an instant impact at Villa Park, registering an assist and a clean sheet in his opening two starts for the club, which only makes the decision to back Benitez’s judgement before sacking him a few weeks later even more frustrating and baffling for supporters.
