Everton defender Yerry Mina has been linked with an exit of late, but the Toffees would likely make a big loss on his sale as his value is thought to be nowhere near the price they bought him for.

According to the CIES Football Observatory – a website that has developed a powerful econometric approach to assess the transfer value of professional footballers on a scientific basis – Mina’s worth currently sits between an estimated £8.4m-£12.6m.

Back in August 2018, the Colombian arrived in Merseyside from Barcelona for an initial reported fee of £27.2m – potentially over three times as much as his current CIES value.

Injuries impacted his first season heavily, but in the next couple of years, he worked his way into becoming a regular at the heart of the Everton defence.

Should Everton sell Yerry Mina in the summer?

This will come as bad news to Frank Lampard and the club’s hierarchy as it seems as though the player could soon be out the door. Indeed, as reported by Brazilian outlet Torcedores, the centre-back has been offered to Flamengo.

The article claims that Everton would be open to letting the player leave. A €2m (£1.67m) loan deal with an option to buy is being touted, but the Toffees then make 50% on Mina’s future sale – and those figures certainly tally with the CIES valuation of the defender.

Perhaps one of the reasons why the player’s financial worth has dropped so much is his problematic injury history. As mentioned earlier, his first season in England was hampered by multiple fitness struggles, and the present campaign has followed a similar pattern.

He has started just eight Premier League games this season, with a persistent thigh problem often the cause of the 27-year-old’s absence.

Though, another issue is the fact that his contract will also expire in June 2023, meaning he will just have one year remaining by this summer.

Taking all that into account, it could be argued that Everton are set to make a significant loss on Mina when he does depart the Premier League club.
