Noted journalist Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Liverpool and their attempts to sign Fabio Carvalho.

One of the names being linked to Liverpool this transfer window was that of young English attacking midfielder Carvalho. With the youngster’s contract set to run out at the end of the season, Liverpool were hoping to bring him into the club this winter rather than risk a free-for-all in the summer.

The youngster has been in impressive form for Fulham this season, scoring seven goals and chipping in with four assists for Marco Silva’s men – made all the more impressive by the fact he is just 19 years old and playing in a notoriously tough division, so it was no wonder that Liverpool were looking at signing him.

Do you know how many points Liverpool gain in these seasons? Let's start of with 2020/21

The deal, which would have seen Carvalho sign for Liverpool but return to Fulham on loan until the end of the season, appeared to be going well, only for it to collapse at the final stages.

Speaking on the latest edition of Rio Ferdinand presents FIVE, Romano claimed that this setback would not deter Jurgen Klopp’s men and that they intend to get a deal done for him in the coming weeks so that they can still grab him before letting other clubs come in for him.

“I’m told that Liverpool are confident to do it also in the coming weeks, to complete everything and sign him as a free agent in the summer and pay the compensation to Fulham.

“He’s a very good player. I’m told that Jurgen Klopp is really appreciating him and wants him as a future player of Liverpool.”

Should Liverpool sign Carvalho?

Carvalho does come across as someone who could be a rather special talent in world football, so if Liverpool can get this deal done in the next few weeks and not let it drag into the summer, it will be a rather smart move for them to make.

With the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid just two of the names that have reportedly shown an interest in him, you can tell that competition for his signature is likely to be incredibly fierce, so the sooner that Liverpool can get this deal sewn up, the better.

Because the last thing that they want is to have come that close to signing Carvalho, only for him to move to another European giant, which could become one of the biggest ‘one that got away’ moments in recent memory.
