Joseph Masi has been speaking on the Express and Star’s YouTube channel about links suggesting Steve Bruce could be West Bromwich Albion’s new manager.

The West Brom board take the big decision on Wednesday to sack Valerien Ismael after just a handful of months in charge and having handed him a four-year contract back in the summer.

Is Bruce the right man for West Brom?

No!

The Baggies are set to move on quickly in appointing their next manager, with former Aston Villa and Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce tipped to take the hotseat at The Hawthorns, with the most recent reports suggesting a deal was close to being reached.

Speaking on Wednesday as the news first emerged, Masi admitted that he was shocked to see Bruce as a leading candidate.

He said: “The Steve Bruce one has come as a bit of a shock, to be honest. I think we all thought if Ismael was going to go, then James Morrison would be the natural sort of interim boss and see where it goes from there.

“There’s been no interim boss named, which would of course suggest that Albion are fairly close to an appointment.”

TIF Thoughts on Steve Bruce to West Brom…

If Bruce lands the job at West Brom, it will be the 12th club of his managerial career and despite claiming that his last job at Newcastle United was likely to be his last one, the 61-year old could see this one as too good to turn down.

Bruce has a very impressive record when it comes to getting clubs out of the Championship, having achieved promotion more times than any other manager, so this appointment would not necessarily be a bad move, but more of a sensible one from the Baggies board.
