Celtic fans have been reacting to news surrounding defender Stephen Welsh and a potential move away during the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old, having made a serious breakthrough with the senior side in 2020/21, has had something of a tricky time when it comes to establishing himself as a first-team player at Celtic Park, often going through spells of being in and out of the side for weeks at a time.
However, according to recent reports, he could well be out of the Celtic side for good in the not-too-distant future.
The Scottish Sun claims that Italian side Udinese are trying their utmost to make a deal happen for the young defender. Having already had one offer knocked back by Ange Postecoglou’s men, the report notes that ‘Udinese remain keen on the Scotland Under-21 star and are ready to try again’.
The news of Udinese’s interest was relayed to Celtic fans by @aboutceltic for them to react to, where it generated some interesting responses, with many rather bemused at the idea of letting a young talent like Welsh go:
“Would be insanity to sell him without a replacement lined up”
Is Stephen Welsh underrated?
Yes
No
Given how active Celtic have been in the window and considering what business they are yet to complete, then who knows, they may need some money in to fund transfers, so this shouldn’t be ruled out as a possibility just yet.
