It was a hectic start to January for Celtic, completing a triple signing of Japanese stars Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi. Less than a fortnight into the window, they’ve made it four signings with Johnny Kenny joining from Sligo Rovers.

He will join on a five-year deal subject to international clearance, joining up with Ange Postecoglou’s side when the league recommences.

Will Maeda be a success at Celtic?

At just 18 years old, there’s no indication whether this is a signing for a future or for the first team now. The press release from Celtic included the first team Japanese trio already signed, so potentially that’s a nod to him being part of the first team?

What the Celtic fans said about Johnny Kenny’s signing

“Scared now, three Japanese guys and an unknown.” @Onganguk

“Hope he is a first team signing… Welcome and good luck!” @lene2104

“Sounds as if he’s been bought for the first team, fingers crossed.” @GDRef0rmed

“We need more first team players.” @NotoriousBAG_

“Sexy content for a Saturday night.” @McNultyJJames

“Did anyone else’s heart skip a beat there” @Shoops67

The centre forward has been making an impression at Sligo Rovers, he has 12 goals and two assists in his 34 outings for the club.

Which forward played for Celtic's academy?

That’s a very impressive return for a teenager and potentially a sign that Celtic have uncovered a hidden gem dipping into the Irish top tier.

It’s a signing that seemed to come from nowhere really, no rumours and no build up, but it’s safe to say the Celtic fans certainly aren’t complaining.
