Wolves journalist Liam Keen has been discussing the club and their plans when it comes to the January transfer window.

Bruno Lage’s men have managed to get themselves into an impressive position as the Premier League enters the second half of the campaign. They currently sit 8th in the table, a feat made more impressive by the fact that they lost four of their first six games in the league earlier this season.

And with the January window open, now is the time for Wolves to decide if they will stick or twist and search for players that will give them a boost to get over the line and qualify for European football once again.

Fitness issues plagued Silvio's career, but where did Wolves sign him from?

Speaking about the matter on the Express and Star YouTube channel following their 3-1 win over Southampton at the weekend, when pressed by host Nathan Judah if Wolves should ‘go for it’ in the window, Keen seemed to stress that fans shouldn’t expect a lot of activity this window, hinting that the focus would probably be more on what will happen in the summer.

He said: “The reality is, as we speak and all the way through the window, is they are going to wait for possibly the right deal at the right time this window – it’s not going to be a host of signings. And they’re very keen to get those injured players back in, they’re aware of their quality.

“It’s not the popular answer, but the reality is that they’re probably not going to do much, maybe bring one, a couple of loans at a push. And that’s the reality of it.

“Are Wolves likely to get top four? I can understand the point, but are they going to really push on and get top four? No, it’s not going to happen, I think, it’s very unlikely. So do they stick with what they’ve got and reassess in the summer?

“They’ve got players out of contract, they’ve got opportunities there. A lot of experienced, older players out of contract as well, there may be an overhaul, so I can understand sticking, I really can.”

TIF Thoughts on Liam Keen’s comments regarding Wolves and the January transfer window…

Have you been impressed with Wolves so far this season?

No

It certainly is a tricky situation for Wolves right now, but it’s a gamble that they should consider taking.

Whilst they have done well to get this far, especially given the start that they had – which lends itself to the argument that they got this far with their current squad, and that with players coming back, that should give them the boost that they need – to leave the club as it is right now would possibly be short-sighted.

The club can use this window not just to try and get over the line this season, but also look to the long-term future as Lage continues to shape the team in his own image. That way, if they don’t finish in Europe this season, they can at least use this as the platform to try and build on for next season and beyond.
