West Bromwich Albion journalist Joseph Masi has given his thoughts on Daryl Dike following his performance at the weekend.

Having been announced by the Baggies as a new signing on New Year’s Day, the American has had to wait some time to make his debut for the club, but he was finally able to do that this weekend against QPR, coming on for the last half-hour. However, he did not do enough to change the game in Albion’s favour as they lost the game 1-0.

Whilst he wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet or get any shots away during his spell against the R’s (via WhoScored), he apparently was still able to leave his mark on the game.

Speaking on the Express and Star YouTube channel following the loss, Masi was full of praise for the 21-year-old, stating that whilst he wasn’t able to get off the mark, he has the potential to be ‘special’ for Valerien Ismael’s men between now and the end of the season.

Masi said: “I keep going on about his presence, but he really is a presence, he really is a presence up there. Just seeing them up there feels very, very different to what Albion have had this season. He’s lifted everyone, his introduction today lifted Albion, it rattled QPR – there’s no doubt about it.

“Look, we’ve got this player now – we can’t get too carried away after 30 minutes, but there is something a bit special about him. It is up to Albion now to improve their chances in the final third and lay these chances on for him.”

TIF Thoughts on Joseph Masi’s comments about Daryl Dike and West Bromwich Albion…

Masi is certainly right when it comes to Dike’s presence up top and how Albion need to make sure they get the best out of him.

He showed last season when he was at Barnsley, where he was also managed by someone who should certainly know how to get the best out of him in Ismael, that he is a very capable forward when it comes to this level and can really help West Brom in their bid to get promoted.

Given that West Brom haven’t exactly been the most prolific this season – ranking joint-10th when it comes to goals scored – Dike could very well be the difference-maker when it comes to the Baggies making a success of this season or not.

But those goals are going to have to come sooner rather than later to give them the best chance.
