A whole host of Newcastle United fans were left furious on Twitter with Fabrizio Romano’s latest transfer update.

Once again, Newcastle failed to pick up three points in what was perceived to be a must-win game in the Premier League, conceding an 88th-minute equaliser at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

Will Newcastle sign a defender this week?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Given their incredible wealth and ability to tempt players like Kieran Trippier to the club, the solution to the Magpies’ continued woes may well be to throw even more money at the squad.

With that in mind, Germany international Robin Gosens has been linked with a move to the club, despite not playing any football since September. Sky Italy had even claimed the Atalanta defender had agreed personal terms with Newcastle.

However, Romano has relayed comments from Atalanta director Umberto Marino about links suggesting Gosens could be leaving this month, where he said: ‘Every day we read in the newspapers of Atalanta players in talks with Newcastle. It seems like a lottery. We’re waiting for Gosens to come back from injury.’

A lot of Newcastle fans were gutted on Twitter to hear this latest claim.

What have these Newcastle fans been saying?

“Another day another dagger to the hopes, so many links desperately need people desperately”

@MitchyTries

“Typical”

@KEZZAMAGS

“Gosens off the cards When are we going to sign more player the same caliber as trippier? Every player is a dead end”

@Nufc2Everything

“Botman all over again”

@LiamNUFC98

“Never should have spent so much time chasing him either. Weeks wasted on a player we’re clearly a few windows away from being able to attract. I fear the same will happen with Diego Carlos. No way I can see us landing a player like that”

@Luxfordinho

“Unbelievable we are still wasting precious time on injured players.”

@DiscoDan18

Gosens was a star and a regular for Germany at Euro 2020, where he scored once and registered two assists – but with the full-back not featuring for a long period of time and given Newcastle’s need for results immediately, it would be a peculiar signing to make if he wasn’t fully fit from the off.
