Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has provided some details over Tottenham Hotspur’s potential swoop for Adama Traore in the January transfer window.

Traore is someone that has been on Tottenham’s radar for some time now, with noted journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming that he was one of their priorities during the summer under former boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

And that interest has carried on into the winter window despite the change in manager, with recent reports suggesting that Spurs had put in a £15m bid for his services, only to see it rejected by Wolves.

Speaking on Sky Sports News’ The Transfer Show, Solhekol discussed the latest with regards to the deal and explained why he felt the move might be playing out the way it is, hinting that Wolves might simply be holding out for a better deal so that they can get a decent return on their initial investment.

He said: “Wolves, in an ideal world, want about £25m for Traore. They will, I think, accept something in the region of £20m – it’s got to be over £20m.

“He’s a player who has 18 months left on his contract. They know that Spurs have been chasing him for a long time; they tried to sign him in the summer as well.

“They signed him, what, three or four years ago now from Middlesbrough for £18m. I think they want to get that money back for him.”

Would Traore improve this Spurs squad?

If Solhekol’s assessment of the situation is right, then this does come across as the typical attitude that you would associate with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, given his reputation when it comes to spending money in the transfer window.

And you do wonder if this could very well be a case of penny-pinching when it comes to signing Traore and a strategy that could end up backfiring for him and the club.

If Spurs boss Antonio Conte thinks that he can be of use to them, with claims emerging that he might be moved to wing-back, then it’s something that he needs to sanction, even if it means paying the little bit extra that Solhekol seems to think it’s going to cost to get the deal over the line.
