The reliable Tottenham Hotspur reporter, Alasdair Gold, has been speaking on his most recent YouTube video to discuss the latest in the club’s interest in Luis Diaz.

It emerged earlier this week that the north London side had seen a bid in the region of £37.6m rejected by Porto for the Colombian winger.

However, Gold has revealed the 25-year-old has now become Tottenham’s number-one priority this month, even ahead of Adama Traore.

Spurs have been linked with Traore for months, and with just days remaining in the window, they are yet to finalise a deal for the Spaniard.

And it seems the club’s attentions are now firmly on bringing the Porto winger to Hotspur Way this month, as Gold had the following to say on his latest understanding of the situation:

“The latest that I understand on that situation is that there’s a growing hope that they might be able to get this deal done.

“They’re absolutely throwing everything at it. That’s their priority right now, this transfer. I understand it’s at the moment – and I must stress at the moment, because there’s a way that everything works in transfers and [the] transfer window and other clubs coming in. But at the moment, Spurs are kind of more hopeful of this one happening than the Adama Traore one.”

TIF Thoughts on Luis Diaz to Spurs…

Diaz typically plays on the left side of attack for Porto, so it would be interesting to see whether he would push Son Heung-min over to the right wing or try it out for himself – if he was to join.

Either way, having Son and Diaz on the wings would certainly be a huge upgrade in front of goal in comparison to the likes of Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn, who do not exactly score on a consistent basis.

Spurs are said to be pushing for a new right wing-back this month, however, with Diaz or Son playing on the right wing, we feel there would be less focus on the need for an attack-minded wing-back this window.

And given Traore was believed to be the right wing-back on Antonio Conte’s radar, that could then allow Spurs to revisit the position in the summer and target an actual wing-back, such as Tariq Lamptey.

It’s only because Traore turned us down and prefers a move to Barcelona. In any case Diaz is far from a done deal too. Even if Diaz does sign, we need more quality signings like that, one won’t do, especially as our priority should be an out and out striker, a left footed centre back and a right wingback.
