Football reporter Dean Jones has been discussing the latest on Everton’s search for a new manager, with Vitor Pereira believed to be a real possibility to replace Rafael Benitez.

Jones was speaking on the latest edition of Touchline Talk and claimed the two parties were close to reaching an agreement for the Portuguese manager to take on the vacancy at Goodison Park.

Do you want Vitor Pereira at Everton?

No

With reports emerging of the 53-year-old being a serious candidate for the job on Merseyside, some Everton fans made their thoughts known as they protested against the potential appointment.

The Portuguese manager has been out of action since December after being sacked by Fenerbahce, having managed just 25 games for the Turkish side.

Everton currently have Duncan Ferguson stepping in as their caretaker manager, but as their search for a permanent replacement goes on, Jones had the following to say:

“It’s a really difficult decision to make now for the club. Like, this is the guy that I guess [Farhad] Moshiri has decided to go ahead with and has been advised to kind of consider for this role.

“And he’s done that, and I guess he’s interviewed well enough that he’s put himself in a prime position to take the job, and from what I understand, is very, very close to actually agreeing this move.”

TIF Thoughts on Pereira to Everton…

It has certainly been made apparent by the Everton fans that they do not want the 53-year-old to be the next man through the doors at Goodison Park.

And we think the Everton board should take on notice of the protests from some of their fans this time.

Fans shared their frustrations over the appointment of Benitez, and he only lasted a matter of months in the job – with the Everton fans quickly on his back when the results began to turn.

Although we are not necessarily saying Everton should appoint who the fans want, they should certainly take the hint that the possible appointment of Pereira would not have the support of many.
