Tottenham Hotspur reporter Alasdair Gold has been speaking on his latest YouTube video about the future of Giovani Lo Celso.

It has emerged recently that the Argentine midfielder could be a player who makes a departure from Hotspur Way this month, with reported interest coming from Sevilla.

Who was the worse signing?

However, reports have also emerged suggesting the 25-year-old is not very well-liked at the club amid the question marks over his future with the Lilywhites.

And Gold commented on those claims from the Evening Standard, with the Spurs correspondent describing the Argentine as being viewed as an ‘awkward’ member of the club.

With just days remaining for Spurs to find Lo Celso a new club before the window shuts until the summer, Gold had the following to say on what he has heard about the Argentine behind the scenes:

“I’m not going to say he’s not liked at Tottenham but – how do I put this? Trying to be slightly diplomatic here. There’s a sense that he can be a little bit awkward at times, especially when he’s not playing.

“And I get the impression that he’s quite a quiet guy. Maybe not someone that is… you know, you see players like [Heung-min] Sonny and [Sergio] Reguilon and players like that – big characters who are kind of a big part of the group and everyone likes them – I get the impression that, you know, Lo Celso is a little bit quieter, a little bit more about himself.

“I don’t think maybe the staff members, he doesn’t talk to too much – that may be more of an introverted thing or not, I don’t know. But yeah, the thing I keep hearing is that he can be a little bit awkward. And yeah, particularly when he’s not playing. I wouldn’t go as far as saying he can be ‘difficult’, but I think ‘awkward’ is probably the best word.”

TIF Thoughts on Lo Celso’s time at Spurs…

Spurs brought in Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele within the space of a matter of weeks and both of them are up there with the club’s most expensive arrivals.

However, they have both been huge disappointments given the price tags they arrived in north London with.

But there is certainly an argument to suggest Lo Celso has been the worse of the two signings.

Perhaps Ndombele has been the bigger disappointment given the glimpses of ability the Frenchman has shown, whereas with Lo Celso, the Argentine has been a regular feature on the injury list and has struggled to break into the starting XI consistently when he has been fit, with just 14 goal involvements in 84 appearances (via Transfermarkt).
