Keith Downie has been speaking on Sky Sports News about Newcastle United’s pursuit of Jesse Lingard.

Newcastle are seemingly working on many deals at once as the deadline looms large with all of Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Hugo Ekitike all looking like they have a strong chance of singing today.

Will Newcastle sign Lingard on deadline day?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Someone who they have been interested in for the majority of January is Lingard, but any deal was very difficult to complete given the finances involved and the survival bonus that his club Manchester United were wanting from the Magpies – but all hope is seemingly not lost.

Downie has revealed where that deal to sign Lingard is currently at.

“There still is an outside chance of Jesse Lingard coming here on loan. We understand that the player would be keen on a move to Newcastle, but I think the ball is pretty much in Newcastle’s court, whether they feel that they’re able to bring him in in terms of numbers, and whether they feel they’re able to do it financially as well.

“We knew that they were interested in Lingard earlier on in the window. It does feel that one might be a little bit late to push through given the amount of other deals that Newcastle have got in the pipeline right now.

“It’s expected to be a very, very busy day, so that’s why I say at least three [incomings]: Targett and Burn, already here; Ekitike, we’re expecting later; Lingard, not dead yet.

“So there is potential of that one being resurrected as Eddie Howe looks to resurrect his squad here at Newcastle United.”

TIF Thoughts on Lingard to Newcastle United…

A big revelation has since surfaced via David Ornstein, who has claimed that Ralf Rangnick has given Lingard his ‘blessing’ when it comes to leaving the club on loan in a bid to gain more regular first-team minutes in a World Cup year.

The Athletic reporter has also claimed that both West Ham and Newcastle have lodged fresh bids for the player, although a move to the latter would be more likely given Man United’s unwillingness to strengthen a rival pushing the for a top-four spot, so the Magpies could see themselves back in the driving seat when it comes to landing his signature in the final hours.
