Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that any West Ham United deals for Darwin Nunez and Duje Caleta-Car are still not close to happening.

Over the course of the past month, it has been no secret that the Hammers have been after a new signing or two, with a number of interesting names linked with David Moyes’ side.

Now, as the transfer market nears its conclusion, it looks as though any deals are looking unlikely. Indeed, in a post shared directly to The West Ham Way Patreon page, Ex explained that the club have missed out on Liverpool defender Nat Phillips, and while they are still pushing for like likes of Nunez and Caleta-Car, ‘nothing is close’.

He wrote: “It appears that yet another target is moving elsewhere, this time it is Liverpool defender Nat Phillips. Despite Moyes having a good relationship with the player’s father, it appears that he is now off on loan to Bournemouth. Could this move finally persuade us to push [a] Caleta-Car deal over the line?!”

He then added: “At this point, I can still confirm that nothing is close, but the Nunez deal and Caleta-Car are still trying to be made happen but both are unlikely at this stage.”

TIF Thoughts on Darwin Nunez, Duje Caleta-Car and West Ham United…

It seems somewhat surprising to hear that Phillips would be sent to a Championship club instead of a Premier League one. Still, perhaps Liverpool do not want to strengthen a more direct rival such as West Ham.

However, this failed move may well tempt the club into making a more emphatic move for the likes of Caleta-Car, as Ex suggests. The 24-year-old has supposedly been of interest to manager David Moyes for some time now, but could cost upwards of £25m.

As for Nunez, there have been some reports that a club-record £60m bid was made for the Benfica striker, but that was rejected. Despite that claim, it seems that his possible move to West Ham still does not look close to happening any time soon.
