George Caulkin has been speaking on the latest episode of Pod on the Tyne about the dressing room feeling towards Eddie Howe.

While there was excitement and hope when Howe was appointed as Newcastle’s first manager under new owners PIF, results have not reflected that feeling, with just one win since arriving.

Will Eddie Howe keep Newcastle up?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The Magpies have spent the majority of this season in the bottom three, which is not surprising given their atrocious results, but with Newcastle seemingly remaining competitive in a lot more games and taking it to other teams as they did against Manchester United, the players appear to be relishing this fresh challenge and Howe’s approach to playing football.

Referencing a recent article of his that summarised the Toon’s first 100 days under the new ownership, Caulkin has revealed what the dressing room verdict is on Howe’s tenure thus far.

“I’ve been very impressed with the way he’s gone about his business.

“For this piece, we spoke to people who were in and around the training ground, how things have sharpened up, he’s made an impact. Talking again to the people at the top of the club, they’re really impressed with what he’s done.

“He’s thrown himself into this, the hard work that he’s doing, it’s like all day, all night – all those kinds of things. I’ve been impressed with the way he speaks and talks and all that, and there’s been really good feedback from players.”

TIF Thoughts on Eddie Howe’s time at Newcastle…

While Newcastle’s results and fortunes have not transformed under Howe, the manager has been able to keep them within touching distance of Watford in 17th place – and with the club in the middle of a transfer window, a couple of signings could alter their season.

Howe will likely be given until the end of the current campaign at the very least to see what he can do with this squad and any additions that arrive. If he can manage to keep them in the Premier League, there’s no doubt he will be remaining on Tyneside into the new campaign, but adding another relegation to his CV would surely see his future hanging in the balance.
