Leeds United fans have been reacting to an article by journalist Phil Hay about young talent Joe Gelhardt.

The 19-year-old had been something of a fringe figure since his arrival at Elland Road in the summer of 2020, making the bench a number of times in the Premier League but never making the break into the first team.

That has changed this season, though, as he has become slightly more prominent, already managing to get two league starts under his belt and earning some significant praise for the way he has performed.

Noted Leeds journalist Hay profiled Gelhardt for a piece in The Athletic, analysing what he can bring to the team, the impact that he has made so far and what the Leeds coaches think about him.

His article was shared on his Twitter account for fans to react to, and it led to a number of interesting responses from Leeds fans, with many of them unable to contain their joy and praise for what he’s done so far this season:

“It was great seeing Joffy warming up and then getting the nod.. the amplified crowd support really does affect away teams. Catalyst for the win.”

“It is on par when David batty started the crowd was on another level when in the team.”
“The boy’s a star”
“Will get slated for this but he literally reminds me of a certain scouse 16-year-old who burst onto the scene playing in blue! The way he runs, his build, his attitude! Would love him to be half the player!”
“Right now his role is as an impact sub – he’s a genuine game-changer off the bench. No reason why longer term he couldn’t develop into playing that 10 role behind Bamford”
“Once he improves the rest of his game (I.e movement and where he should be and when) this kid will be frightening. Already see he has magic in his feet”
