Many Celtic fans have been left rather excited after a report claimed they are close to signing J-League striker Daizen Maeda.

In recent times, the 24-year-old Yokohama F. Marinos star has been said to be a player that manager Ange Postecoglou certainly has an interest in.

Now according to Yahoo Japan, transfer negotiations between Maeda and Celtic are in the final stages. The report also takes time to highlight Postecoglou’s appreciation for the player.

When this latest update was shared on Twitter by fanpage Everything Celtic, the delight of the club’s supporters was evident to see.

Here’s what these Celtic fans had to say…

“He looks fantastic.”
“Looks dynamite.”
“I think he will be brilliant for us.”
“I’m so ready for him, Kyogo and Reo to absolutely run the league.”
“He’ll cause problems.”
“Him and Kyogo up top will be frightening.”

The consensus over Maeda seems to be a very positive one amongst these supporters. To be fair to them, his goalscoring record would explain that excited anticipation.

Indeed, the 24-year-old scored 24 league goals last season, making him his division’s top goalscorer. Meanwhile, if he was to join Celtic, he would link up with fellow Japan star Kyogo Furuhashi.

Will Celtic sign any players for the J League this January?

Considering Kyogo scored 21 times in 15 games in his final season in the J-League, you can see why a partnership could be ‘frightening’ if Maeda was to arrive in Scotland this January.
