Leeds United fans have been reacting to claims about a potential swoop for Mariano Diaz in the upcoming transfer window.

Leeds are somewhat thin when it comes to the centre-forward position, with Patrick Bamford the only natural senior option available to Marcelo Bielsa, with Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood still young and inexperienced.

And having struggled to score this season with just 15 goals in their opening 15 games, it would make sense for them to start looking for potential backup options in case Bamford is injured or suspended in the future.

Can you remember where Leeds finished in these league seasons? First up: 2018/19

According to reports in Spain, Leeds are ‘preparing a firm offer for next January’ for 28-year-old Diaz, who, having shown some promise in the Real Madrid youth setup, was given the chance to head out on loan to French side Lyon, where he bagged 21 goals in 2017/18, but has failed to reproduce that form back in the Spanish capital.

The news was relayed to them by the Leeds Insider Facebook page (via MOT Leeds News), where there didn’t seem to be much enthusiasm over the idea of the Whites trying to sign him:

Given that Diaz has only scored six goals since the start of 2018/19, you can understand why fans might be wary of him and feel they should be looking for someone more reliable than that to fill in for someone as important as Bamford, who’s hit more than 15 goals in each of the past two seasons for Leeds.
