Hammers insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United have spoken to Liverpool striker Divock Origi ‘on numerous occasions’.

Over the weekend, the Belgian striker made headlines with a last-minute winner with for the Reds in their 1-0 win over Wolves in the Premier League, before scoring another match-winner in midweek.

Despite being limited to just 38 minutes of league football this season, the 26-year-old already has two goals to his name – and a further two in a pair of Carabao Cup matches on top of his latest strike in the Champions League (via Transfermarkt).

One of his goals came against West Ham, which is ironic given the east London outfit have supposedly ‘been very close to signing’ Origi in the past according to Ex, while they have also been linked with a move for him more recently.

Indeed, when speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, ExWHUemployee revealed that David Moyes had doubts about the player, and speculated whether or not the club may make a move for him in the upcoming transfer window.

He said: “Every time he comes on for Liverpool, or every time I see him play for Liverpool, he looks a handful and I like the look of him.

“And a couple of times, we’ve been very close to signing him, but the managers at the time – Moyes being the most recent – have had their doubts and have chosen not to.”

He then concluded: “It will be interesting to see if we make a move for him in January again, we’re still linked with him. I know for a fact we’ve spoken to him on numerous occasions.”

TIF Thoughts on Divock Origi and West Ham…

Origi has certainly made a remarkable impact in the Liverpool team despite so frequently playing second fiddle to the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and others.

Indeed, the striker scored in the famous European comeback win over Barcelona in 2019 before scoring in the Champions League final that followed. He also netted a memorable late winner against Everton in the Merseyside derby earlier that season.

Should West Ham go for Nathan Ake this January?

Add to that list his late winners in the club’s most recent matches, and you can see why some West Ham have had an interest in Origi.

If the Hammers are to achieve Champions League football of their own this season, it wouldn’t hurt having a guy who’s performed so well in that competition amongst their ranks.

Perhaps this thought will tempt Moyes into a bid this winter.
