A large number of Newcastle United fans have flooded to Twitter to cast their judgement on a fresh claim to emerge about the potential future sponsorship of the Magpies.

According to The Telegraph, Premier League clubs are close to agreeing upon new rules which would see the Toon able to secure a partnership with a Saudi Arabian firm.

Next week, the top-flight clubs will meet to finalise the rules which will allow clubs to strike deals with businesses who have an affiliation with the specific club’s owners.

As the Toon owners look to steer the club in the direction of their ambitious plans, Toon fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on the expected development.

What did these Newcastle fans have to say?

“Weird thing about this is the PL will be preventing a club to inject more money in itself, to invest into more commercially lucrative players to bring to the PL.”

“Any deal is better than Mikes free advertising. No matter what, we’re better off.”
“They can strike deals with however they like. There is no way blocking any sponsorship deal can be illegal given Loads of clubs already do this!!!”
“Fair market value would have to be similar to what Man City, Chelsea, Leicester, or even PSG receive. Because that’s how much clubs who have been taken over by rich owners get. You can’t say it’s ok for them and not for us.”
“What is fair market value tho. How would they compare it?”
“It’s Mad how this is even a topic of conversation”
“What will be next I wonder.”
“that rule is a clear breach of competition law”
See the telegraph do 2 different stories 2 minutes apart, why am I not surprised”

Having previously seen their stadium renamed the Sports Direct Arena, Newcastle could be open to striking a deal with a Saudi firm on the naming rights of St. James’ Park, for example.

Although this should offer Newcastle fans some positive news, it is apparent they are still frustrated with some of the other Premier League sides who were reportedly against the Saudi-based takeover.
