Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to the performance of Matt Doherty during their Carabao Cup tie.
In a pretty back-and-forth game that saw both sides have plenty of chances and share a pretty frantic few minutes during the first half, it was Tottenham who came out victorious and sealed their place in the semi-finals of the competition.
It means that Tottenham are one step closer to claiming some silverware as they hope to end the trophy drought that they’ve been on since the 2007/08 season. And even though they were able to progress, there were still some players who, at least according to the fans who were commenting online, didn’t seem to be pulling their weight.
29-year-old Doherty didn’t make a single tackle against West Ham United, only won 50% of his aerial duels and didn’t complete a dribble successfully before being pulled off in the closing stages (via WhoScored), which led to some rather fierce criticism from the supporters on social media:
“Nah I’m actually concerned about Doherty. I’m pretty sure he’s not actually a footballer”
Does Doherty need to be sold?
Yes
No
Recent reports have suggested that the club are willing to sell the Irishman in the upcoming January transfer window, and if he keeps performing like this, then that just makes the case to get rid of him all the easier.
