George Caulkin has been speaking on the latest episode of Pod on the Tyne about how PIF are currently running Newcastle United and their plans for the future.

As the January transfer window gets ever closer, questions have ramped up in Eddie Howe’s press conferences as he was asked ahead of their midweek match about whether reports are true that the club are looking to bring Kieran Trippier to Newcastle, although as expected, he refused to comment.

How many players do Newcastle need to sign?

Five or less?

Five or less?

More than five?

More than five?

Being able to sign someone who has Premier League experience at both ends of the pitch, is a title winner and an England international would be a smart move for the Magpies, and an obvious upgrade on their current options at right-back, looking at what Trippier has achieved during his career.

The Telegraph has reported Trippier would cost £20m, and for that sort of money it would likely be considered a good deal both on the pitch and in the boardroom, so if they can get him for that kind of sum, it could be an indicator as to how the club will be looking to go about their business.

Caulkin has revealed how Newcastle’s new owners are wanting to run the club.

“Theoretically, we know Newcastle have all the money in the world. In practice, that’s not how they’re being run, that’s not the way it’s going to work unless things drastically change. But certainly, from the stuff that we hear behind the scenes, it’s being sort of run on business lines.”

TIF Thoughts on how PIF will run Newcastle…

According to The Telegraph, some clubs were looking to adopt an ‘anyone but Newcastle’ policy when it comes to transfers because of their wealth and how Saudi Arabia essentially owns the club, however, if they are not looking to make big splashes in the transfer market in terms of throwing money at any player, some teams may come around to do deals with the club.

Some names that have been linked with Newcastle are either proven players in the Premier League who are not being played very often, in the form of Jesse Lingard and Nathan Ake, or have some potential sell-on value, like Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth – so it seems as though they’re wanting to do things right and not waste much money if they can avoid it.
