Liverpool have been in free flowing form this season, with two of their forwards occupying the top two Premier League top scorers spots so far. Mo Salah leads the way on 15 goals with Diogo Jota is in joint second with Jamie Vardy on nine.

Despite scoring for fun this campaign, Jota’s starting place isn’t a guarantee now Roberto Firmino is back from injury, so on OTB AM it was put to Liverpool legend Phil Thompson, would he potentially be considering his future in the hunt for regular first team football?

Should Gerrard succeed Klopp as Liverpool's next manager?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

This is what Thompson had to say: “It’s nothing that Liverpool fans should get a little bit upset about. I don’t know if you’re trying to say that he’ll look to go to pastures new if he’s not playing. I think he’s more than happy, and I can see him more because you’ve got Sadio, you’ve got Mo, you’ve got Bobby, they’re all in their thirties, and I think he is maybe the changing of the guard.”

TIF thoughts on Jota’s future…

As previously mentioned, Jota is in the form of his life so far, building on his 13 goals in 31 outings last season for Jurgen Klopp. It’s safe to say he is forcing his way into the picture to be a starter in Liverpool’s best team.

First up in this Jordan Henderson quiz, how old is the Liverpool captain?

Thompson’s argument is cemented by the fact we saw over the summer at Liverpool, new contracts for the likes of Fabinho, Alisson and Virgil van Dijk and other key players, but none for the front three. Is this a sign Liverpool are planning to make a huge change in attack?
