Leeds United fans have been reacting to a stat that has emerged regarding young goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

Having spent the majority of his first season at the club on the bench, the situation surrounding then-No 1 Kiko Casilla allowed Meslier to take on the role and he has since made the position his own – only missing three games for Marcelo Bielsa’s men in the Premier League.

Can you remember where Leeds finished in these league seasons? First up: 2018/19

He’s clearly impressed those at the club during that run of games, as this past summer, he signed a new five-year deal at Elland Road, keeping him at the club until 2026. That string of appearances has meant that this past weekend against Brentford, he made his 50th appearance in the top flight, but not only that – he became the youngest goalkeeper in Premier League history to reach that milestone.

The accomplishment was celebrated by the Leeds United Twitter account along with a montage of some of his best saves in a Leeds shirt, which led to a number of fans expressing their excitement over how well he has done so far and what it could lead to in the future:

“He’s clear of Donnarumma”

“Some world class saves in this vid and throughout his Leeds United career, but doesn’t get the recognition he deserves because he’s not English or plays for a “big six club”. Yet, Ramsdale/Mendy/De Gea pull saves like these and the headlines go crazy. The ice man”
“Club legend pending, I genuinely believe that”
“Absolute prodigy”
“The special one”
“Being a Leeds fan for over 35 years I have seen some great keepers, Nigel Martin was my favourite! But this lad is something else”
“Announce a new improved contract, he’s the future of this club”

Is Illan Meslier World Class?

Despite reaching the milestone, if Meslier keeps making saves like he did in the montage, Leeds might be lucky to hold on to him moving forward, because a bigger club might come along and try to grab him.
