Joseph Masi has been speaking about what the future holds for Sam Johnstone on the Baggies Broadcast.

The England international decided to remain with West Brom over the summer, despite the fact his contract is set to expire at the end of the season and that there was reported interest from West Ham and most recently, Southampton.

Johnstone has started every league game bar the opening fixture against Bournemouth, and with the Baggies having kept nine clean sheets this season, that will surely only increase interest in him when it comes to January and next summer.

Will West Brom earn promotion?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Masi has been speaking on what he expects Johnstone to do with regards to his future this coming January.

“So I would say the odds are very, very low. So the situation with Johnstone obviously is that if he becomes a free agent, he will basically get a massive signing-on fee.

“I think Johnstone could definitely leave in January if something unbelievable emerges, and of course, he’ll take it – but I thoroughly, thoroughly expect him to see out the season with Albion and assess his options in the summer.”

TIF Thoughts on Johnstone…

The fact that Johnstone has managed to keep his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad while playing in the Championship is testament to how good he is as a goalkeeper, and a lot of that was brought to people’s attention last season when he racked up the most saves in the Premier League.

It’s likely that West Brom will want to keep Johnstone as they chase a place in the Premier League for next season, which will surely be more valuable to them than if he left for a fee, with the Baggies far from certain of restoring their top-flight status at the first attempt.
