Tim Howard has been speaking on NBC Sports about why Marcel Brands will benefit from leaving Everton and how the club’s board is broken.

Farhad Moshiri and the Everton board recently decided that they were going to part ways with director of football Brands. The Dutchman was appointed back in 2018 and oversaw signings such as Bernard, Alex Iwobi and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

Should Everton sack Benitez?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

It’s safe to say that Brands does not have a great track record leaving Goodison Park, as there has been a lot of money spent during his tenure and no league finish higher than eighth, but some are not convinced that this parting of ways will necessarily benefit Everton, despite pledging to give Rafael Benitez their ‘full support‘.

Speaking before Everton’s win over Arsenal in the Premier League on Monday night, former Toffees ‘keeper Howard criticised the makeup of the club and stated his belief that leaving could be good for Brands.

“He’ll be better off outside of Everton Football Club because the system is broken, and I’m not sure I believe Everton when they say ‘we give Rafa Benitez our full support’.

“The fact of the matter is the board at Everton Football Club is split on Rafa Benitez – and it should be. He’s in the Premier League, he manages Everton Football Club, they haven’t won in eight games – there should be pressure.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton’s board and Brands departing…

As a director of football, Brands’ role was to work closely with the manager and come up with targets they could sign to improve the team on the pitch, but given they have failed to get anywhere near European qualification, it’s safe to assume his time at Goodison Park was a failure.

If it’s true what Howard has claimed about the Everton board being split on wanting Benitez, that is a cause for concern as once he’s in the dugout, he should be given the full support, but if some still don’t want him there, it doesn’t appear to be a harmonious place to be.
