West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has claimed that the club are ‘prepared to sell’ Andriy Yarmolenko, with Genoa a potential destination.

Up to this point in the season, the Ukraine star has only played 52 Premier League minutes for the Hammers. With that in mind, it’s clear to see he’s not particularly in David Moyes’ plans at the moment.

While discussing the player on The West Ham Way podcast, ExWHUemployee said the club’s ‘highest-paid’ man could end up with former international teammate Andriy Shevchenko, who now manages in Serie A with Genoa.

He also listed some other possible destinations, saying: “Yarmolenko is someone that we are prepared to sell. His contract’s up in the summer. Obviously, he is, from my knowledge, the highest-paid player at the club.

“His former teammate and Ukrainian legend Shevchenko is the manager now of Genoa in Italy, so they might be looking to sign him. But he’s also had interest from Russia, Germany and Turkey as far as I know.

“I think you’d be hard-pushed to match his salary at West Ham. But if Shevchenko comes calling for him, I reckon out of respect, he’d probably want to go there.”

TIF Thoughts on Andriy Yarmolenko and West Ham…

Shevchenko was, of course, Ukraine’s manager during Euro 2020 over the past summer – a tournament in which Yarmolenko played and scored.

Considering the retired striker used to be his boss and also scored 48 goals and reached 111 caps for their country, it’s easy to understand why the West Ham man may have a lot of ‘respect’ for the Genoa coach.

Should West Ham sell Andriy Yarmolenko this January?

With Yarmolenko’s contract running out in the summer, it does seem as if the Hammers should try and cash in on him if they can. If that is the case, they will be glad to see a number of potential suitors already available for the 32-year-old.

It certainly seems that if a move to Serie A doesn’t work out, the winger will have options throughout Europe to go for as a Plan B.
