A whole host of Sheffield United fans were very pleased with Chris Basham’s interview following their latest Championship fixture.

Despite bringing in a handful of players over the summer who have a blend of Championship and Premier League experience, it has been a tough start for Slavisa Jokanovic as Sheffield United manager.

The Blades have only won twice in their previous seven games in the Championship and that included a draw on Tuesday evening against Nottingham Forest.

However, one positive was seeing Basham, a defender who has been with the club since 2014, make his first start since 28th August. Given it was a landmark occasion for the centre-back, he was on post-match media duties and thoroughly impressed some fans with his words.

He said: “I’m gutted because I got chucked back in the team tonight and I was desperate to keep a clean sheet for the team and the manager.”

A lot of Sheffield United fans were buzzing after Basham’s interview was shared on Twitter.

What have these Blades fans had to say?

“Levels above anybody else on the pitch”

@p51mys

“If any player deserves a statue its this man. Will be a sad day when he leaves.”

@M_Eggy1

“Gave 100% tonight as always, first name on team sheet on Saturday!”

@helenmarie88

“Well played bash…Great performance…and nice to see. Don’t fall into the tip tap square balls at the back. Not your game. Not our blades game..we want front foot aggressive footie..but its gone boring..you know it we know it..well played our legend..”

@SergioFila83

“Love the guy! Mr Sheffield United! Played brilliant today! Some players let you down tonight for that clean sheet, and putting chances away to win the game! What a legend this guy is at the club”

@calcutler

“Immense tonight”

@gavblade

Basham was a regular during the Blades’ two seasons in the Premier League, but after starting four of the club’s opening five league games in which they kept two clean sheets, Tuesday night was his first start since that run of games.

Do you know the record signing for these Championship sides? Let's see if you do, starting with Fulham

During the time that Basham has spent out of the team, Sheffield United have only kept one clean sheet, which suggests they are a better defence with him in the side and judging by these Blades fans’ responses, they want to see him in the team more often.
