Sheffield United journalist Nathan Hemmingham has shared an update regarding Blades midfielder Sander Berge and his current situation at the Yorkshire club.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Serie A duo AC Milan and Roma are interested in signing the Norwegian, who is set to enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season.

With some time left before the January transfer window closes, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged on the matter.

In a recent report from Hemmingham for Yorkshire Live, the journalist had this to say about Berge and his stance at Bramall Lane.

He said: “For now, Yorkshire Live understands Berge is content at the club with the Premier League as his preferred destination. Given United’s current league position, he is said to be relaxed about his future.”

The Blades signed Berge back in the 2020 January transfer window on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Genk for a then club record fee of £22m.

Do you think Berge will sign a new deal at Sheffield United?

Since then, the 24-year-old has made 86 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and delivering nine assists along the way.

This season has seen Berge show how much of an impressive midfield figure he is for his team, especially from an attacking point of view.

Specifically, the Norway international has racked up the third-highest number of shot-creating actions (50) at United as well as the second-highest number of passes into the final third of the pitch (55) at the club.

With four goals and three assists to his name in 18 league appearances, Berge’s overall performances have earned him a respectable season rating of 7/10 from WhoScored, making him the seventh-highest-rated player at the club.

Taking all of this into account, it’s easy to see why he has caught the attention of Milan and Roma.

Moving forward, if the Blades are able to secure promotion back to the Premier League at the end of the season, one of their top priorities should be to secure a new deal for the midfielder and hope that he can help them avoid going back down to the Championship.
