Plenty of Newcastle fans were quick to single out a Tweet from new Newcastle stakeholder Jamie Reuben after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

Graeme Jones’ managerial debut started with a stalemate as the points were shared at Selhurst Park, with Callum Wilson coming to the rescue to nullify ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa star Christian Benteke’s opener.

However, Reuben courted some backlash from fans when he suggested the result marked an ‘improved performance’ compared to Steve Bruce’s final game in charge – a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Where will Newcastle United finish in the Premier League this season?

Many Newcastle fans were quick to react as they took to social media to have their say on Reuben’s Tweet, with many finding it to be controversial.

What have some Newcastle fans been saying?

“Wouldn’t go that far, thought we were shocking. Take the point and move on. Massive job ahead. New manager needed ASAP please Jamie, these players need to be coached”

@The_Looney_Toon

“100% not an improvement. Minimal possession, minimal shots, minimal fitness, minimal 50/50 won… VAR to the rescue. SO MUCH work needed and NO extra days off this week a must”

@GraemeRchardson

“Didn’t see much improvement tbf.”

@InsaneHashtag

“With all due respect Jamie, that was not an improvement..”

@nufc_seb

“Slightly improved. Defensive shambolic. Get SCHAR and DUMMETT in ASAP.”

@ToonMouthTyne

“Come on Jamie, that was horrendous, get Jones out, he worse then Bruce that’s a fact have you seen his win percentage as a manager, we need a manager in that can organise till jan , not looking good for RAFA at Everton , he doesn’t break contracts, well go buy him”

@comeonthetoon

“Improved?? U gotta be kidding. We cant even hold the ball more than 3 sec. @asaintmaximin worst performance ever”

@Nufcasia

Reuben has discovered the hard way that the performance on the pitch does not always equate to points on the board. That is simply part of the nuance of football, and the fan response may prove to be something of a learning curve for Reuben.
