A whole host of Newcastle United fans are very angry on Twitter following Luke Edwards’ latest claim surrounding sponsorship deals.

The Magpies, in a matter of weeks, have gone from relegation candidates and a team that was just ‘ticking along‘ as Steve Bruce labelled it, but now they are the wealthiest club, certainly in the Premier League, and have been linked to players such as Dele Alli and Ousmane Dembele.

Who would you rather as Newcastle manager?

Fonseca!

Fonseca!

Ten Hag!

Ten Hag!

Despite their new owners being incredibly wealthy, they will be hoping for a lucrative sponsorship deal to help inject some cash into the club, much like Manchester City have Etihad airways sprawled on their shirts, but Edwards has claimed that clubs are going to push through new rules ‘that any sponsorship deals connected to a club’s owners must reflect the true market value.

A lot of Newcastle fans on Twitter have been left annoyed following this latest claim.

What have these Newcastle fans been saying?

“Who gets to decide true market value? And “forced through”? Quite the democratic approach… So will current inflated deals then be nixed? Not to mention Swansea Coty’s FMV being based off much bigger clubs? Amazing how much a club in the NE has shaken up the entire league”

@ARTG44

“If that ever gets agreed it will show how much of a scam this whole system is (not that we didnt already know)”

@nufc_r

“Cutting off their nose to spite their face.”

@Cyttorak14

“I hope our owners lawyers have a field day with this. Who exactly decides ‘market value’”

@BobMalugalugal1

So a “small club” like Newcastle United has teams and the league changing the rules to stop us competing its all becoming a joke”

@DannyEvz

“Such a murky world. Can we and MCFC just sign short term deals and up them by 10% each time?! But at the same time, who’s to say a company is KSA wouldn’t still gain from a deal that they paid say £500m for!? Independent regulator please…”

@jkb_bell

The Magpies will be hoping that this new rule if it’s passed through, will benefit them in a way such as Man City have benefited from their Dubai based sponsor, as a Saudi Arabian company such as Aramco, who sponsor Formula 1, could see their company on the front of the famous black and white shirt, while pumping a generous amount of money into the club.
