Gavin Buckland has been speaking on the Royal Blue podcast about Tom Davies’ performance against Watford and whether or not he’s good enough for Everton.

With just 13 minutes left in the second half on Saturday, Everton were 2-1 up against Watford who had only won twice in the league all campaign, however, a whirlwind end to proceedings saw the Hornets put a further four goals past the Toffees.

Should Everton sell Tom Davies?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

It was a dream start for Rafael Benitez’s side who stormed into a lead via Davies after just three minutes, but that was to be the highlight of the afternoon for the academy graduate as he was lacklustre in the build-up to Watford’s third and fourth goals putting in laboured attempted tackles as well as not tracking his man.

Buckland has blasted Davies’ performance against the Hornets.

(8:05) “I don’t want to pick on people, but Tom Davies had a role in about three or four of their goals and they must be questioning whether he’s good enough to play for Everton.

“I’m not picking on Tom, but that was a shocking challenge, I mean, I never want to accuse a professional footballer of bottling it but that challenge on, was it Sissoko? Both him and Allan it was just shameful, they were non-challenges in midfield.”

TIF Thoughts on Davies…

The Everton midfielder broke onto the scene back in the 2016/17 campaign which saw him start 18 league matches and score two goals, however, since then he’s never managed to score more than twice in a Premier League campaign as well as his best season in terms of starts being 23, it could well bring his future at Goodison Park under question.

To kick off this quiz on Everton transfers, which player was the Toffees' club-record transfer fee paid on according to Transfermarkt?

There was talk over the summer of Davies potentially departing as links emerged of a deal involving Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff, who is out of contract this summer, joining the Toffees and then Davies going the other way. Given his lack of starts in the league under Benitez and the Magpies’ newfound riches, he may have wished that move had materialised.
