Tony Scott has been speaking on the All Together Now podcast about how poor Salomon Rondon has been this season and especially against Watford.

The Toffees suffered an embarrassing defeat at home to the Hornets, who had not won a game since September 18 when they brushed aside Norwich City and this is now Everton’s second loss in a row and the second time they’ve conceded three goals or more in a match in all competitions this season.

Is Iwobi good enough for Everton?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Everton were active on transfer deadline day as Rafa Benitez managed to bring in Rondon, in what was the third time that the Spaniard had signed the striker as a manager. He arrived behind Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order but has started five league matches due to injuries to the former two but with zero goals or assists, he’s certainly not set the world alight.

Scott was really not happy with Rondon’s performance against Watford.

(9:05) “It’s not sticking, it’s bad. It looks like you’re watching a Sunday league player at the moment just running about. He looked like he’d been out all day and you know when you’re going to watch a Sunday league game Greg and you see a big centre forward up-front just chasing shadows?

“That’s what it’s like watching him and you’re running out of excuses now because he should be match fit, I don’t want to hear excuses.”

TIF Thoughts on Rondon…

Everton fans may have thought they were getting a reliable and dependable striker on a free transfer in the form of Rondon given how excellent he was under Benitez last time out in the Premier League when he scored 11 times in the Premier League, however, he could not be further from that form.

Rondon, so far, has started five games in the league for Everton but has only managed to direct one of his eights shots on target in that time, and if your striker can’t even get test the goalkeeper, it’s always going to be a struggle and put a huge amount of weight on players such as Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend for that attacking output.

Something that else that is highly concerning, is the lack of touches Rondon is having in the opposition’s penalty area, just 21, compared to Richarlison, who has started fewer league matches than Rondon but has racked up more touches(FBRef). Considering the type of player Rondon is, a target man who thrives off crosses, 12 of his 35 league goals have been headers, you would expect him to be in very few places other than in the box, so he’s either not getting into the right areas or, is not being trusted by his teammates.
