According to well-known West Ham United podcaster ExWHUemployee, young defender Ben Johnson is ‘the perfect model off the pitch’.

The youngster recently starred in the Hammer’s league win over Tottenham Hotspur, earning praise from manager David Moyes for his performance in the 1-0 victory.

Now, while speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, ExWHUemployee has claimed that a ‘dedicated’ lifestyle may be the reason behind the youngster’s ability to break into the high-flying Premier League team.

He explained how the youngster doesn’t drink and takes his life away from the pitch very seriously, saying (09:06): “His family are all church-going, he’s very much in that mode too.

“He doesn’t drink, I don’t think he goes out particularly much. Like, you know, ‘on the lash’ or whatever.

“He’s dedicated his career and everything to making it at the top level in football.”

He then concluded (09:45): “I just think he’s the perfect model off the pitch. And you see, obviously, Declan [Rice] gets on really well with him, I think all the other players do.

“And I just think that’s so important. How many times we have stressed that in the past, we may have recruited good players, in terms of their technical ability, but we haven’t recruited the right players in terms of their mentality.”

TIF thoughts on Ben Johnson and West Ham…

A recent injury to Vladimir Coufal has afforded the full-back a shot in the club’s starting lineup. Indeed, Johnson has now played 90 minutes in the previous two Premier League games.

Not only has he filled in, but he’s also helped his side keep two clean sheets and claim a maximum of six points from these outings.

Could Ben Johnson keep Vladimir Coufal out of the West Ham team?

At just 21 years of age, Johnson already has 30 senior appearances to his name, as well as a whole host of outings with the club’s youth sides.

No doubt, his commitment to a healthy life away from the pitch is an example for all footballers to follow.
