Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel to discuss Liverpool’s ongoing contract discussions with Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian forward is now into the final two years of his current deal with the Reds and is putting on a show in the early stages of the 2021/22 campaign.

Is Salah currently the best player in the world?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Across his 12 appearances in the Premier League and the Champions League this season, the 29-year-old has been able to find the back of the net on 15 occasions and provided five assists (via Transfermarkt).

Romano has stated previously that Paris Saint-Germain have already shown interest in potentially signing Salah with the future of Kylian Mbappe still unknown.

However, speaking on the Egyptian’s Liverpool future, Romano had the following to say on how contract negotiations are progressing.

(9:00)  “They’re negotiating. For Liverpool, it’s more than a priority. It’s like signing a new player. This is the feeling I have when I ask my sources around this renewal because they know how important is Mo Salah as a player.”

“This is why Liverpool are working on it now. They are negotiating with Mo Salah, they are talking with his agent and they want Mo Salah to feel [like] the most important player for Liverpool also on [the] contract side. This is why they are negotiating now, they are pushing and pushing.”

TIF Thoughts on Salah’s contract saga…

After the start to the season the 29-year-old has made, it has left many tipping the Egyptian forward as the best player in the world.

Although that title is up for debate, what isn’t up for debate to us is Liverpool’s ability to negotiate with Salah over a potential new deal.

We feel he has taken his game up a level in the early stages of this season and Liverpool simply cannot afford to allow Salah to leave the club under any circumstances.
