AFC Bournemouth fans have been reacting to comments that have emerged from Steve Cook following his recent performance.

The 30-year-old has pretty much had to take a backseat to proceedings at the Vitality Stadium this season. Having missed a large chunk of pre-season due to injury, he has only played one game this campaign – and it was one to forget, as he was part of the 6-0 thrashing that the Cherries received from Norwich City in the Carabao Cup.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

As he continued his recovery from injury, he made his first appearance at home for the season as he was part of an academy side that took on Arsenal in the Premier League Cup, a game that the Cherries drew 1-1 thanks to a late goal from Christian Saydee.

Speaking after the match on social media, Cook tweeted out his delight at being able to play again, stating: “Really good to get 90 mins in tonight. Missed playing at the Vitality. Nice to see so many come out the cheer on the lads. Also great to see @lewiscook_ return.”

His message delighted a number of AFC Bournemouth fans who read it on Twitter:

“Great to see you back out there @SteveCook28. Whatever happens from here, it’ll never be forgotten what you’ve done for this football club on and off the pitch”

“Made my day to see you back playing! You are a true club b legend! Well done Captain & hope to see you back where you belong with the 1st team ASAP!”
“So good to see you back out there!!”
“Always good to see you out on that hallowed turf ledge”
“We’ve missed you too skipper”
“And we miss seeing you represent us captain”
