Former Rangers ace Michael Ball believes that Cedric Itten could still make a real impact for the Scottish champions from next season.

The striker was allowed to move on in the summer transfer window, joining Greuther Furth on loan.

Itten has somewhat struggled during his time with Rangers, making a total of 42 appearances for the club but scoring just six goals, and laying on three assists.

Would Gerrard do well as manager of Liverpool?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

He is only 24 and remains a Switzerland international, winning four caps for his country and scoring three times.

Itten was prolific at St Gallen, where he netted 36 times in 63 games, and Ball believes that the loan deal could be designed to improve him and give him the opportunity to prove his worth before returning to Ibrox.

Speaking to This Is Futbol, Ball said: “Surprised and disappointed that we’re not going to see him in the blue for Rangers but it probably works out for both parties that he’s going to go away, get that experience, and hopefully come back to Rangers a better player.

“He could be the key focal point for Rangers next season when he’s back at the football club.”

In a statistical quirk, all of Itten’s four goals for the club in the league last season came against Motherwell, across three separate games.
