A collection of Celtic fans have expressed their concern online after it was announced that captain Callum McGregor had been called into the Scotland squad.

Next month, the Scottish national team will play against Israel and the Faroe Islands in their World Cup qualifying fixtures. Celtic stars McGregor and David Turnbull and are the only two Bhoys to make the side.

However, the Hoops captain has missed the club’s last four games due to a hamstring injury and the call-up, despite his lack of fitness, has a number of Celtic supporters concerned.

Here’s what these Celtic fans had to say…

“Calmac should withdraw. Celtic can’t risk him being injured while playing for Scotland.”
“Get McGregor away from that squad – he isn’t fit, and it’s only risking further damage to him. Maybe promote U21 player Scott Banks of Crystal Palace to the full squad instead for these games.”
“Pfft refuse!”

The club’s form has been pretty woeful since their captain suffered his injury. In fact, they have only won once – against minnows Raith Rovers – since McGregor played in the 3-0 win over Ross County in the league.

In better news, however, he did say he was hoping to be fit soon during a recent interview with the Daily Record and could be ready to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League on Thursday.

What’s more, the 28-year-old also just agreed to a new long-term contract with the club, committing himself to the Bhoys until 2026.

If he can find himself back on the pitch soon, Celtic may be able to stabilise their season and get back on track.
