Celtic fans have reacted online after seeing footage of defender Carl Starfelt’s comical own goal in the Europa League.

Earlier this week, a first-half Kyogo Furuhashi strike was enough to see the Bhoys edge past AZ Alkmaar 3-2 on aggregate and qualify for the competition’s group stage.

However, in the 26th minute of the game, Starfelt – while under no pressure in his own six-yard box – missed a clearance with his left foot and saw the ball roll off his other leg into the back of the net.

The disastrous moment put his team under pressure, and although they ultimately survived, a clip of the incident online has drawn a lot of attention from Celtic fans for all the wrong reasons.

Here’s what these Celtic fans had to say…

“I’m sure Carl Starfelt is an imposter. I reckon it’ll come out that he hasn’t actually played football before and he has blagged his way into getting a contract at Celtic.”

“Jeeez that’s Sunday League stuff.”
“Should we just retire our number 4 shirt now?”
“He’s no under pressure, there’s literally no one near him. I don’t even know why he’s clearing it like that, any defender with a brain side foots it. He’s played internationally and all, mesmerising.”
“That number 4 shirt’s haunted man.”

It’s clear to see from all these comments that the Bhoys supporters were none too impressed with Starfelt’s panicked moment.

And with the Old Firm on the horizon, the defender, and everyone involved with the club, will be hoping he has got all of the mistakes out of his system for the week.
