On the latest episode of the Gold & Guest talk Tottenham podcast, Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has been discussing all things transfer-related.

One name which was mentioned was the Metz midfielder, Pape Matar Sarr, with Spurs believed to be closing in on a deal for the 18-year-old.

Do Man United need to make more signings before the deadline?

However, it is claimed the deal which is being negotiated for the Senegalese midfielder would see him immediately return to the Ligue 1 side on loan until the end of the season.

A deal for the youngster was believed to be valued in the region of €15m (£12.8m), but the Metz president has stated a potential sale would be worth “much greater” than that, while some reports indeed suggest it could rise to €25m (£21.4m).

Discussing the areas in which Spurs will be looking to improve on in the final days of the transfer window, Gold had the following to say about a potential deal for Sarr.

“I was looking at his stats and stuff and what he did last season – he played a lot of minutes for a very young player, and then made an impact as well on top of that.

“It’s an advanced stage now, so it looks like that’s going to happen. [He will be] loaned back, I can’t see it as anything other than a good deal. I don’t think it’s going to be a huge fee. I don’t think it’s going to be quite as low as some have made out, and then I’m sure, with a player with that kind of talent, there’ll be stuff added on for the future with various things he achieves.”

TIF Thoughts on a deal for Sarr…

We think this potential signing may initially come as a bit of a disappointment to some Spurs fans, as they would not get to see the youngster play in their shirt until next season at the earliest.

However, it is worth remembering this is a similar deal to which Spurs drew up for Dele Alli, and he proved to be an instant hit in N17 when he arrived from MK Dons.

Although Spurs fans may want to see an instant change to their squad, this would indicate that Spurs really want the player and are potentially looking to secure his services before other clubs get in there.
