Leeds United journalist Conor McGilligan has been sharing his thoughts on Whites defender Liam Cooper and his current situation at the Yorkshire club.

This comes after McGilligan appeared in a recent video from the One Leeds Fan Channel on YouTube where he spoke about a range of topics concerning Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

First up in this 2020/21 LUFC quiz, which of these players did NOT score against Liverpool in the 4-3 defeat at Anfield?

On the subject of Cooper and how he is currently seen at the club by the fans after giving away a penalty during Leeds’ recent 2-2 draw against Everton in the Premier League after he grabbed hold of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s shirt in the penalty box, McGilligan had this to say about the player.

He said: “I mean, a lot of people are not happy with Liam Cooper at the minute.

“I think sometimes he can be a bit of a scapegoat, to be honest, and I think if this was Stuart Dallas, per se, no one would be saying anything.

“I think it is just one of those things with Liam.”

TIF Thoughts on Conor McGilligan’s comments on Cooper…

Given how Cooper gave away the penalty at the weekend that put the Toffees ahead at Elland Road in the first half, it’s understandable why there may be some Leeds fans out there that aren’t particularly happy with the defender at the moment.

Do you think Cooper should be dropped from the team?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Despite the apparent frustration over Cooper that McGilligan spoke about, the fact that Robin Koch missed the Everton match through injury and the fact that Diego Llorente may not be ready for the weekend, suggests to us that Cooper may well keep his place in the team for the time being while the injured duo are unavailable.

However, in our view, if the 29-year-old doesn’t want to risk alienating the Leeds fans any further, then he will need to make sure he’s not making any rash mistakes like giving away any penalties as he did against Everton, or else he could well find himself out of the team when Koch and Llorente are back fit.
