Many Celtic fans have been discussing an update about Odsonne Edouard on Twitter.
The Times has reported about Odsonne Edouard’s situation at Celtic, saying that the Frenchman is set to reunite with Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City. The striker is set for a move to the King Power Stadium this summer and the deal could be sanctioned when Celtic appoint their new manager – who could potentially be Ange Postecoglou.
Is this a bad deal for Celtic?
The report claims that Celtic had hoped to earn more than £19.7 million from his sale but they will now settle for less than that, as he could leave for a fee of only £15 million.
This update was relayed on Twitter by Everything Celtic and many Hoops fans expressed their views about it.
What did Celtic fans make of the news about Edouard?
“A real steal at that price.”
“£15M and a feel mugged off.”
“Should have got them to throw a player in instead of some of the fee, ie Benkovic plus £12million or so, PSG can have their 50% sell on then and we get a centre half.”
“Another consequence of the incompetence of our manager & board. Deliver the 10 with Eddy scoring freely we would’ve got +30 mil for him.”
Edouard’s former club Paris Saint-Germain have a sell-on clause in the contract, as the French club could earn 50% from the total fee. This suggests that Celtic will actually get only around £7.5 million from Edouard’s sale if the Frenchman leaves for £15 million.
Because of that, Celtic could end up making a loss on the Frenchman as they signed him for a club-record £9m, so this deal may not be a great move for the Hoops.
