Celtic fans on Twitter have been sharing their criticism for Hoops midfielder Callum McGregor after his latest international appearance for Scotland during their recent 2-0 defeat against the Czech Republic at Euro 2020.

Two goals from Patrik Schick secured the win for the Czech Republic at Hampden, leaving Steve Clarke’s side with a defeat in their opening game of the tournament.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

During the match, many Celtic fans took notice of McGregor’s performance in particular and were not shy in sharing their thoughts and feelings on the matter on Twitter.

So, what did these Celtic fans have to say about McGregor’s performance for Scotland against the Czech Republic?

“Sorry big man but McGregor has been rank and doesn’t deserve a start. Even with my Celtic hat on I can see that.”

@BrianMcVeigh7

“As a Celtic fan? Christie, McGregor shouldn’t be anywhere near that Scotland team just now. CalMac should sit on a beach for a few weeks. Christie sorting out a transfer. Forrest? Yes. Turnbull? Not ahead of McGinn, McTominay or Gilmour but bring the guy on in the second half.”

@DominikDiamond

“Shocking yet again fae mcgregor”

“I dunno mate. As a Celtic fan I love McGregor, but he’s been a shadow of himself this year, and it’s coming through in his Scotland performances when he doesn’t have Ryan Jack beside him. I’d rather see Gilmour instead of McGregor come on for Armstrong.”

@marcmcardle1

“The only good thing to come out of Celtic this season and he sits on the bench aw game. Forrest been injured all season, Christie been a disaster and McGregor having the worst season in his career, all get game time. The sooner Clarke stops picking his pals the better”

@P__67

“Christie n McGregor have been absolutely dreadful all season yet they’ve both had a chance the day while Celtic’s best player has sat in the bench, well done Steve Clarke”

@Gunnie__67

Looking at these tweets from this group of Celtic fans, it’s clear to see that they were not happy with what they saw from McGregor when he came on as a substitute during the second half of the game against the Czechs.

With the Daily Record giving the Celtic man a match rating of 5/10 for his cameo appearance, this shows that he didn’t exactly have a good impact when he came on to salvage something from the match.

Do you think McGregor should have started against the Czech Republic?

No

However, taking into account that the Daily Record said that he “immediately got on the ball and picked passes, showing why he probably should have started,” this should perhaps give Scotland manager Steve Clarke the idea to start McGregor in Scotland’s next game against England on Friday to give him the opportunity to impact a game from the start instead of from the bench.
