Arsenal insider Charles Watts has provided his thoughts on the club and their pursuit of RB Leipzig defender Tyler Adams.

A recent report from The Athletic claims that the Gunners ‘are keen’ on the 22-year-old United States international, valued at £18m on Transfermarkt, as they look for targets at both full-back positions, although the German outfit are reportedly reluctant to let him go following the previous high-profile departures of Ibrahima Konaté and Dayot Upamecano.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

The right-back area in particular does arguably need some attention, with Hector Bellerin seeking a move away, and Arsenal reportedly not standing in his way if a club were to come in for him.

And speaking on his show, Watts discussed the situation and how he felt Arsenal might approach the situation:

“It could be a really interesting option if Arsenal can get something done for Tyler Adams. It sounds like it could be difficult in terms of getting him out of Leipzig – Leipzig losing a lot of players this summer, probably not too keen on losing him as well, so it would take a very decent offer.

“Would Arsenal want to pay that sort of money? We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s an interesting name.”

TIF Thoughts on Charles Watts’ comments on Tyler Adams and Arsenal…

So it sounds as if a deal could still be done, but Arsenal are probably going to have to pay through the teeth in order to make it happen. And whilst right-back is an area that could need some attention, it’s probably not one that Arsenal should make a priority, especially with the re-emergence of Calum Chambers as an option there.

And with the team having no European football next season, it’s not like they need a massive squad to stretch themselves out, so if Chambers can secure that spot at right-back permanently, then they really only need someone to come in as a backup.

So the money that they theoretically could spend on Adams should probably be spent elsewhere in the team.
